Prayerbook for the Jewish community of Avignon; Avignon was a papal territory and its Jews usually included a prayer for the Pope on the fall holiday of Simhat Torah; it had been occupied by French troops in 1688, so the prayer for the Pope was replaced by one for King Louis XIV in this manuscript.
