Title from illuminated title page (fol. 1a).
Physical description: 23 lines per page. Written in medium small naskh. The Qurʼanic text is written in red, the commentary in black. Light cream paper, glossy, with laid lines and chain lines in groups of two and three visible. Occasional marginal annotation, including notes in Persian (see fol. 10a) and notes attributed to Tafsīr al-ʻAllāmah Ibn Kamāl Pāshā (see fol. 15b).
Chiefly quinions. The quires are numbered using Arabic numerals.
Decoration: Illuminated title page on fol. 1a, executed in gold, red, blue, and green. A panel outlined in blue with flecks developing from each outer corner is divided in two uneven parts. The upper part bears the title written in white on a blue ground with a rinceau in gold, in a cartouche on a red and gold ground. Small roundel in gold and red outlined in blue on the left margin. Origin: The copy is not dated, but the name of the copyist is given as Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʻAlī ibn Manṣūr, known as Ibn al-ʻAshrah. The illuminated title page, paper, and script, suggest Egypt or Syria, 14th-15th cent.
